Isn't our copyright law clever?

Not clever enough however, to provide statutory protection for ISPs if/when their customers download illegal stuff -- if that stuff is cached (however temporarily) on an ISPs servers.

In light of this court decision, will you now be consigning your Kodi box to the scrapheap?

There's a distinction to be made here.....these were kodi boxes sold, with a number of services which offer non copyrighted content. I'm happy for that to be prosecuted....and I bet the makers/community of kodi would also, as this is what gives their software a bad name.

Now anyone can install kodi, and in a few short minutes find pretty detailed guides on how to get the same illegal content into kodi....same with a bare bones box. But I find it a little on the nose that they should be sold as a turn key solution with this stuff on it.

Yes, how can we get a "do not resuscitate" sign affixed to its corpse?

if one of the rich movie studios or music publishers decided to accuse an ISP of violating copyright

This happened to a friend of mine some years go.
His friend visited a few times with a laptop that was downloading a movie from Pirate Bay.
The ISP cut the internet off & said that if it happens again, account will be terminated.
Apparently some authority from the US notified them that copyrighted content was downloaded.

I'm surprized that Sky hasn't demanded the customer sales info so that they can go after the end users.
