Woohoo... the future is here already!

What are readers' experiences with voice recognition systems -- good or bad?

Will this new generation of "home assistants" from Google, Amazon and a rapidly growing number of other companies do for our lives?

Or are you worried about an "always listening" microphone being set up in your home and connected to an "always online" network connection?

Will you trust tasks such as opening and closing the pod-bay doors to a computer -- or will you stick with the old-fashioned switch on the wall for now?

If I can be slumped in front of telly, and mumble, 'what did she say?', (without having to announce 'Oh Samsung My Samsung' first, or push a button on a remote) and have the show back up and re-play the last 10 seconds, we will be living in 'Teh Future' and I will gladly have a(nother) microphone listening 24/7.

It's hard to know where to put the mic. Remotes will be a distant memory - maybe physical phones, too. They could build the mic into one of my teeth. I have a couple of hollow ones... Voice and image recognition should give these new A11 chips a decent workout, without having to send everything back to the Cloud for analysis.

I'm also looking forward to never having to pair (or, indeed, 'paaaaiiiiirdh') Bluetooth devices.

Well Bruce, that's YOUR credibility ruined forever more.... TURING test !!! But OK, I'll accept it was an ordinary typo.....

"Open the pod bay doors HAL" will probably become "Start the engine".... "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that, you've had far too much alcohol to be safe"...... "Right...where's my screwdriver..."
and can you imagine how long an assistant which says "Dave, I see you are driving far too fast for the conditions..." will last ? Not long.....

Worse !!! I've just thought of "Dave, I have reported you to the Police for doing 125 in a 100 zone"
