Man flu, it's a curse! (6 Mar, 2018)

This is the second year in a row that I've had a March cold^H^H^H^H attack of killer influenza.

Why is it that we can explore distant worlds, split the atom, build supercomputers -- but we can't cure the common cold?

And has anyone else noticed that these replacements for pseudoephedrine aren't a patch on the real thing?

Alcohol aside, what's the most effective symptomatic treatment you've found for this devastating killer man-flu that's going around?

Yep the replacements for pseudoephedrine seem to mostly be a placebo. It is really frustrating as it was restricted to stop the P cooks. However by that stage the system of requiring photo ID and limiting sales had mostly stopped that method. The gangs were smuggling in larger quantities of precursor chemicals then what they could pick up from pharmacies.
As for treatment only thing I find effective now is fluid (Real, pulpy OJ is good), paracetamol and rest.

thermals, wet suit and bed if your cold
thermals and bed if your hot
eat nothing .. drink only if necessary

and be warmed by the thought ...

it could have been worse
it could have happened to me

Has anyone created a simulation to show what would happen if a drone got sucked into a plane engine & determine how likely that would be in the event of a collision?

I suppose it does make sense to engineer against bird strike. A chicken would be far more substantial than a drone
