Not that we needed any more proof... but doesn't this whole Amazon tax thing simply deliver further proof that our (and Australia's) politicians are arrogant, stupid and naive?

Hell, if someone as ill-versed in international politics and tax as myself could see the holes in it right from the get-go, surely Australaisia's best and finest minds could have also seen that this was never going to fly -- or does arrogance and power cloud one's vision to an even greater extent than I'd imagined?

It would appear that even in the 21st century (more tha two decades since we first said it) our politicians still "don't understand the internet" and how it effectively disempowers them in favour of "the people".

I can't help but remind folks that this political philistine still believes that the problem (in respect to contemporary politics) lies, not with the people but with the system. Cue plug for Recoverable Proxy :shock: :o :) :D

The article mentions the Aussie government is attempting to recover GST + penalties from non-compliant online retailers through foreign courts. It will be interesting to see what the result of this is.
