Tech giants consolidate their power (12 Nov. 2018)

Postby aardvark_admin » Mon Nov 12, 2018 6:55 am

THis column is archived at: https://aardvark.co.nz/daily/2018/1112.shtml

Is it inevitable that big corporations will band together to create oligopolies that allow for higher profits and reduced competition?

Is the Apple/Amazon deal really in the consumer's best interests and does it simply signal the start of many more such deals in future?

What will the landscape be like in another 10 years if we allow the Googles, Facebooks, Amazons, EBays and others of the world to set up super-cozy relationships that effectively lock out smaller operators?

to me thats corruption on all sorts of scales

control of the spare parts market ( especially for semi reliable ones ) is a huge thing

i worked for a domestic whiteware manufacturing company that was doing the change over from private to corporate ownership
many of the defects were deliberately kept in place because
the annual profit from spare parts dwarfed the profits from the manufacturing of new items

thats what i see as the reason behind apples decision
control the franchise .. control the price
maximise the profit

use any leverage to get there
( ,,,,,,,, ....... A E I O U use em sparingly theres probably not enough )

What would you expect from two large American companies? The whole place is rotten with bare-faced, unashamed corruption from bottom to top!

Why exclude the other extortionistic cyber-terrorists like gooble, adoyou and microcrapt?

They're all tarred with the same brush

I suspect that Amazon was between a rock and a hard place with this. Apple to Amazon "If you want to sell new Apple products you will have to ban all unauthorized repairers on your site"
