repairing led lights

short of a handy hints section i thought i would drop this here

led lights fail .. a lot
after some googling and a bush trial i found most are reusable ( repair is an overshoot as the repair doesn't take it back to as manufactured again )

most led lights are surface mounts
each mount commonly contains 3 chips ( 6 smc joins )

as most run in series if one fails all die ( or dimly flicker )

to find the problem area
remove the cover to access the leds
bridge each led mount with a jump wire ( easy to see the entry and exits ) ... i made up a light socket on a flat bit of wood to work on them .. not needed but easier
if the problem is in 1 chip section when you bridge it the rest of the leds will come on as normal
further refine by bridging each of the 3 sections
solder a fine wire across the bad section and viola .. not a fully repaired led but a no loss in noticeable light reusable unit

apologies if this doesn't belong here but some will be interested

use your brains to figure out if you have jumped too many and need to add extra resistors to drop the current
stay safe
