We must restrict this technology!

OMG... Software Defined Radios (SDRs) can be used to spoof ILS transmissions which aircraft use to help them land (especially in poor visibility)!

The fact that these transmissions are spoofable is hardly news but it seems that the media has decided that "it's only a matter of time" before bad actors use this SDR technology to cause airliners to crash.

Sound familiar?

Surely, if this is the case, then SDRs must be restricted and registered; their owners must be licensed and only those who have passed a competency exam plus passed a "fit and proper person" test should be allowed to posess them (as is increasingly the case with drones and RC models).

Let's see... LED pointers, drones, RC models, SDRs -- what will our politicians take from us and license back to us for a fee next?

It does sound somewhat familiar, in fact I recall watching a documentary on it some years back
