"the complex mix of recreational and cultural activities on and near the harbour"

How ironic that the Tokoroa Airfield has a similar complex mix of activities (driver training, drag-racing, bike racing, model flying, etc) on its runway but the local council thinks that requiring a standard rejoin maneuver (recommended by CAA) would be an unacceptable burden on aviators and actually reduce safety. They even hired a bunch of consultants to tell them that. Meanwhile, aircraft continue to land in the middle of car and model events despite the fact that the runway has been closed and NOTAMed. "Nah... all good" is the SWDC's attitude.

Sigh!

I heard that CAA are actually more concerned about pilots vaping and thereby getting mind-altering substances into their bodies. They're worried that canabinoids and other "drugs" can be vaped and that pilots may fly "under the influence" after vaping.

sounds like some of the poli speak ( lies ) that have been floating around
fails the logic test though

vaping dry herb is done through a $300-$500 specialised vape mod ( not suitable for e-juice )
whereas smoking it involves a $30 bong or $1 packet of cigarette papers

few here vape any of the canibinoid oils as they are not so much available ( so the death rate from vaping thc oils cut with vitamin e acetate is non existent )
these are usually vaped in the cheaper pod type e-juice vape mods

some are vaping the thc free CBD isolate as a medication ( no psychoactive component )

as far as the vaping thc v smoking thc .. the only difference is one has been done for 5 years or so the other 5,000 plus .. the physical and mental effects are the same

bottom line
i have been vaping e-juice for ~3 years .. i have smoked roughly 20 cigarettes in that period ( a days visit to sydney )
without the e-juice i would have smoked around 22,000 cigarettes

ohh yeyy the planes arrived .. i can see now why you didnt want a bar of them
planes = ~$ 600
extras to make them work > $ 750
time spent fiddling and frustrating ... more than the stated 20 mins
