What the?

I used to think that Arstechnica was at least a partly reliable source of tech news but now I am far from sure.

Has Conde Nast turned Ars into just another tabloid gutter-rag but with a tech-twist?

Who (if anyone) has reliable, researched news these days?

And why isn't NZ over-run with these nasty replicating ticks that have the "potential" to kill 30% of us with some nasty virus?

Surely Ars hasn't been exagerating or trying to create hysterial just to sell advertising...

Dangit. I use Ars as a daily source of reasonably-well-researched news. May have to change that.

Oh, and the ticks are NZ's one & only tick and prefer livestock to humans so we can still sleep well tonight: https://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/ ... ects/ticks
The Ministry is not aware of any cases of people catching a disease from a tick bite in New Zealand. The main diseases of concern in some other countries are not currently present in New Zealand

How is it that blood-sucking ticks are 'technical' news?

For some reason, when I read your comment, our parliament sprung to mind. Perhaps it was the refernce to "blood-sucking ticks"

ticks
suck blood .. and spread disease, weakening and slowly killing the host

many similarities with out best and dearest
they breed in cycles, work in plain sight visible for all to see, can be easily removed with a flick

tapeworms
work unseen, grow to grotesque sizes, suck the best nutrients from their host, continually breed by dropping their filth over every place they go,
never kill their host but keep them permanently weak by using them as food gathering slaves,
are almost impossible to remove without a surgical strike, or poisoning the host.

vote..
a// ticks
b/ tapeworms
c/ im not sure but probably both
