The media, an industry in crisis? (16 Dec, 2019)

It took the music industry decades to adapt to the changes forced upon them by the digital era and the internet -- but it seems that the media remain totally incapable of such adaptation.

Instead of improving their offering and presenting a better value-equation, many media outlets have opted for exactly the opposite... replacing journalism with fake-news and quality content with press releases and crappy stories written by interns.

Can the traditional media even survive in the third decade of the 21st Century?

Might publicly funded media be the last bastion of quality and integrity? Or is that just as unlikely?

Did Orwell have anything to say about this trend?

I also wonder if it's exacerbating / reducing general comprehension abilities in the 'great unwashed?'

Something that was the subject of your daily column, not so long ago.
