Politicians, some are nasty (18 Sep, 2020)

What do you think of Judith Collin's response and comments yesterday?

Is now the very time that NZ's politicians ought to set aside their differences and start working in unison and in a way that best benefits the nation and its people -- rather than remaining focused on their own personal self-interest?

I know I'm dreaming when I imagine the massive benefits that would flow from a multi-party concensus government -- but hey, dreams are free.

Did Collins' comments yesterday do far more harm than good to National's chances of becoming government for the next term?

It's a sad truth that our political landscape is being Americanised - less of the 'these policies of ours will make NZ a better place" and more of "those others are hopeless and you can't trust them". We're also getting the cult of personality, started with John Key (Look at me, I'm important!), and now Jacinda Ardern (she's a very competent leader, but shouldn't be canonised)

Anecdotally that seems the case the further 'right' the parties are:
-Greens: "We want to save the environment at any cost"
-Labour: "We've got to this point, we can recover with these policies, we know what's best for you"
-NZ First: "Scary alien immigrants everywhere!"
-National: "We would have done it all much better, and will fix it for your business, but not going to tell you how"
-ACT: "More capitalism, less people" (Still can't get past ACT being run by a hologram from Red Dwarf)

What was really worrying was NZ First hiring people involved with the Brexit propaganda war. Social media needs to filter out the paid political manipulations.

Benefits of MMP?

Postby Perry » Fri Sep 18, 2020 8:47 am

I think that NZ voters are in a near impossible bind. Comrade socialist Cindy et al may've done the best they could, but the circumstances helped disguise many other less-than-desirable policies. Even if some of those were promoted by the watermelon party, they are still bad policies for NZ. Robertson borrows billions, but is only paying 0.5% on the loans. The "be kind" smiley thing exhortation did not seem to filter down to others in the drone house, or gummint departments.

E.g. The police and zero tolerance where there's money to be raked in, but 100% tolerance in the face on being hugely out-numbered by illegal / unlawful / law-breaking / irregular / whatever demonstrators and mongrel mob funeral attendees.

Now, a few pix to save a lot of words.

That's without considering the no private schools funding debacle.

You are obviously young Perry - or you would remember the two elections that Rob Muldoon won with fewer votes than Labour.

Hang on, didn't the Donald do the same thing back in 2016?

Ahh, Perry, the ol' MMP chestnut again, usually wheeled out by disgruntled Nats supporters and the unsophisticated voter. I'm glad of it. I live in the one of bluest electorates in the country so I'm glad I can make one of my votes count because Comrade Collins ain't getting my vote. Colins is an old school, has been politician put there in cahoots with that other old bag of the National Party, Michelle Boag. It's the last throw of the dice for them both. Currently they offer nothing new and have no vision. Where's the new blood? The others? As per usual its lolly scramble and vote buying time, bound to be forgotten once they get in power.

I'm too am sick of this adversarial approach to politics and would welcome a more collaborative approach. Currently I'm not ruling out any party, except for Comrade Collins, can't vote for that.

if the green party was primarily an environment focussed party
and not just a lackey of labour i would have no problem voting for them at all
there was a blue green party that had the basics right but it seems to have dropped off the scale somewhere

collins is just a little to corrupt and crony-istic for my tastes

silly sindy is .. silly sindy

the rest are a hotch potch of surrealistic dream worlds and conspiracy

the final decision is yet to be made and will no doubt be done on the personal competence ( perceived ) of the local candidates and the manifestos for parties

mmp is far far better than what we had ... it still needs a major overhaul .. but not in the direction of fpp
( ,,,,,,,, ....... A E I O U use em sparingly theres probably not enough )

i might live and eat in a sewer .. but hey look how many of these shiny things i have got

It's the same for all of them.

The younger others, filled with idealism and no experience. They have no vision. Just hallucinations.

She looked across the Tasman and saw the Liberals win the election here with no policies, but a massive and well funded smear and scare campaign, based on a torrent of lies and innuendo, and financed by Billionaires who are now demanding their pound of flesh.....

Ah, so all those Facebook pictures are a smokescreen, you'll really be voting Labour this election as they're the only ones with governmental experience in times of a pandemic. Can't say anyone else has recent experience at being a PM, that counts your Comrade Collins out then.
