We may never run out of sand but the semiconductors we make from its silicon are now in very short supply.

Will China step up to the plate and start servicing the ever-increasing demand for sophisticated semiconductor fabrication?

What will the flow-on effects be from this shortage of semiconductors?

Has the resurgence of crypto-currency mining and insufficient fabrication capacity created another perfect storm for those wanting to upgrade to a new GPU?

What ever happened to the simple life? ()

As/when mainland China subsumes Taiwan, they will take a handy lead. After the Huawei fiasco, they won't rely on western software again, either.

Covid began disrupting China's production at around this time last year, and it's doing the same again, with about 19 million people under lockdown. Hopefully they can get ahead of it this time.

The resurgence of crypto-mining seems to have coincided with several large-scale power blackouts around the globe. Probably just a coincidence.

Well, as much as I appreciate technology and working and playing with it I find as I get older I'm becoming more of a Luddite! No IOT tat and apps on my phone for operating "stuff". "Stuff" that generally can be better operated by getting off my arse!

Basically give me lo-tech over high tech these days. Mostly!

Neither low no high - for me it's about being appropriate. Very appropriate.

Once, after listening to the sales-speak, I replied, "why on earth would I want or even need to do that?"

I got that crestfallen look.

A recipe book atop the bench seems so much more appropriate than a tablet.

Same goes for software.
