If I could, I would (8 Jun, 2021)

What is with the way governments want to increasingly strip us of our freedoms, our rights and our privileges. Why can't my wife claim her pension without me producing a raft of documentation over and above my tax number and such?

Does anyone remember the world before it went mad?

As I see it, things / reasons will get worse before they get better.
Especially with a large crop of avowed communists in government.

They call themselves socialists, but that's a euphemism, at best.

USSR was self-described as a union of soviet socialist republics.
But - despite the name - everyone knows it was a communist bloc.

BTW, Bruce, the WINZ inquisition is likely because the pension rate payable differs, depending on the co-habiting arrangements of the applicant. I also guess that if you were getting the pension, none of the inquisition you lady's getting would occur.

My wife has clearly stated that she's married and living with me so they can establish the rate from that. Why is there a need for me to prove who *I* am? Why does the identity of the spouse make any difference -- given that they could simply put her on the lowest rate if in any doubt?

Imagine if you will someone younger who wants to claim a benefit and says they are in (or not) a relationship or whatever but at later stage is found out to be the reverse and is getting more than their entitlement. Can you imagine the hysterics reverberating around talkback radio as grumpy old buggers berate "the system" and "bloody scroungers". Perhaps WINZ or whoever need to make sure as they don't want to suffer the ire of the mob.

Also is it not a good thing that we have to provide ID? It would certainly stop me (and most people I'd imagine) getting my license renewed as one Bruce Simpson of Tokoroa. There are more than enough items on that list that most people would have one or two.

I also remember the good old days when you could claim 2 doles if you had slightly differently spellings of you names (think Katherine and Catherine).

If you follow patriots on Gab.Com, there are a number of Americans forming militia groups. Gun and ammo sales continue to empty the shops.
Americans are preparing for the possibility that they will have to use violent force to oust the tyrannical regime already in place.
It is THAT bad over there.
Covid will vanish from TV when the next revolutionary war takes place.

For a renewal...yes. For simply getting a replacement copy, no. What could would a copy of *my* license be to anyone else -- unless they're prepared to undergo significant plastic surgery :-)

Lots of stuff - under-age minions could well use it to obtain alcohol at the nearest Countdown for instance. (yeah I know, you'd expect retailers to actually look at the ID but often that's an ask too many...)

HI Bruce, how about you take the pension which you are entitled to and then you
can put it towards a worthy cause. At least that way the money won't be wasted.

The way I view it a pension from the government coffers is simply a tax refund,
and we have certainly been well taxed in this country.

PS you could just give it to the wife i am sure she could find a use for it.
