Why no decent cameras from China?

Surely, given that they make almost everything else the west consumes, a half-decent Chinese-branded mirrorless or video camera should be a piece of cake to find -- but I can find nothing.

Why is it that this pretty big market has been all but ignored by China?

since the advent of smartphones, the DSLR camera market has been in decline (some would say free-fall) so not too surprising that there's not any new entrants to the market.
Probably surprising they didn't have a go 10 years back, but I'd say too late now.

do thermal cameras come into your mix

cause they dont do those either .. much to my surprise
the chinese ( blackview ) thermal lens phone i have has a flir lepton sensor ..
and the paucity of anything but really basic thermal sensors from china is quite strange considering the market and the manufacturing requirements
even the lenses and chips for the high spec phone cam ( 14 meg ) are made in japan ( sony )
( ,,,,,,,, ....... A E I O U use em sparingly theres probably not enough )

i might live and eat in a sewer .. but hey look how many of these shiny things i have got

My first thought was that if you've invested $$$ in lenses for your camera body, you'd be loath to leave all that behind. But we have Tamron and Sigma both making Canon/Nikon/Sony-compatible lenses, and they're both Japanese. Maybe there's some back-room licensing deals going on, and the Chinese manufacturers aren't invited.

Nothing to stop the SIno-manufacturers from making bodies (sans lenses) and just using industry-standard mounts is there?

Perhaps there's some kind of license required to make a specific type of lens-mount but when have "licensing" or intellectual property concerns ever stopped the Chinese? :-D
