The East/West divide could be about to deepen significantly if China sides with Russia over Ukraine and helps Putin side-step the financial sanctions being imposed.

It's sad to see that the West's contribution to protecting Ukraine from an invasions consists pretty much of standing on the sidelines, shouting "boo" and waving wet bus tickets at Russia's wrists.

However, do they have any option but to remain unengaged, given Putin's veiled threats of deploying nuclear weapons if the West wades in with military forces?

What a dog's breakfast the world is right now.

Greetings from the United Kingdom of Boristopia.

The Ukrainian civil war has been running for 8 years, and the UN says that 14,000 civilians have been killed, mainly by the Ukrainian state forces. So far Russia has done nothing different to what nato/usa has done in recent memory. If what Putin claims is true, he has no intention of occupying the Ukraine, only to prevent the war of attrition that has been running for the last 8 years.

If they occupy the Ukraine they lose the moral high ground, but what has happened so far is no worse than nato bombing Serbia because Kosovo wanted independence. So far the Russians have attacked the Ukrainian military infrastructure, but no full scale invasion like the BBC and other western broadcasters are claiming. There is an awful lot of pot calling the kettle going on, and we will need to wait for the dust to settle before the reality becomes clear.

The Chinese haven't attacked anyone in the last 40 years that I heard about, and I'm sure they will want to remain neutral, by not supporting either Russia or the US, despite the harassment they get from the US almost continually.

The biggest problem in this connected world, is that the truth is just as elusive as it's ever been, the choice is propaganda or propaganda, I don't trust any of the mainstream 'news' outlets, and until they all start singing from the same hymn sheet, I consider them all government mouthpieces.

I hope you guys have already got your heating oil bought, because who ever is wrong or right, we the people will be the folks that pay for it all in the end.

I believe someone is constantly poking and prodding, fomenting discontent and rebellion, and aiming to stay in the shadows long enough to be the last man standing.

The current approach on all things seems to be to focus on the minute 'fact' that supports your narrative while ignoring the multitude of facts that point otherwise.

Lots of kettles and pots here today. However, always good to read divergent views rather than live in an echo chamber.
