Why would anyone waste their money on a SodaStream device (unless ordered to do so by "she who must be obeyed")?

The numbers may have made sense in the 1990s but today they do not.

Perhaps there's an opportunity to make a device that will sequester its own CO2 from the air and thus, if powered from a renewable energy source, be totally carbon-neutral. At least the greenies will have reason to buy it, won't they?

i have one
and quickly worked out the math when the first bottles of syrup and co2 were finished
they are around the same price per ltr as the premium fizzy drinks
they mean you can have onhand a multitude of flavours
they save on recycling pet bottles .. sadly thats the only plastic container thats widely recycled already
they do not save money

the syrup makes excellent slushies or sno cones when mixed with ice and water in the bullet
but the dry mix raro stuff is as good

You can swap your used canister for a full one at most places ( Noels etc) for $26.. We got one recently and the recycling bin has far fewer pet bottles in it now.

So what is the point of this SodaStream device? There's nothing it can do that you can't do at a far lower price by using a bottle of $1 soda from the supermarket.

Might be something to do with convenience. Also, some of the budget brand 'flavoured' drinks are just yukky tasting.

Then there's the issue of all that CO2 you're releasing...

Hello, Bruce: anyone home? You're not suggesting the the CO2 in the sodastream cartridges is different to the CO2 in plain pack yuck bottles, are you? (You evil fellow, you.)

And cancel home bread-baking, too? All that CO2 being generated by my friendly yeast organisms.

I wonder if you are looking at different sizes. Sodastream has two sizes for the CO2 cylinder, a 30l one and a 60l one. I got a machine not long ago and it came with the 60l CO2, but the supermarkets here seem only to hold the 30l replacements.
