So where does the $21 I paid last week for a 1Kg block of tasty cheese actually go?

Fonterra says "we don't get much of it" and the supermarkets say "we're trading on razor-thin margins" so who's pocketing the difference?

Or is someone telling lies?

And just what is to be come of NZ once dairy becomes an unaffordable luxury due to the ongoing price trends and rampant inflation?

Will the government be able to implement a fix as effectively as it did with the telecommunications industry?

Can we survive long enough to see the effects of such changes -- before people turn to other methods of feeding their families?

You're asking in the wrong place. You'll get me bleating about overshoot, and asking 'what did you think collapse would look like?'. You'll get someone else having a wankcry about 'Taxinda'. Not much you can actually rely on or use :/

Don't overlook that the Labour gummint created the problems to start with, when it sold Telecon to an Amrican outfit. That worked as well as selling the railways to Oz.

One would hope that our rich overlords that have shares in Countdown and Foodstuffs will spend their dividend payouts into our local economy and make us slightly better off overall.

Actually, knowing the way things work in NZ, chances are that those creaming it from their shares will be ploughing that money into real-estate, thus keeping the property bubble alive and well -- to the detriment of anyone wanting to buy or rent a house

We would love to move back to NZ. However, it's just too expensive! Land, food, commodities - decent beer is cheaper though.
We'll just live on our comfortable 10 acres until the missus pegs out, then see if NZ has improved, or, now Aus has thrown out the tory toe rags, see if it gets better over here. I must admit we buy Kiwi dairy products for a reasonable price over here, despite the main duopoly, (Coles, Woolies) augmented by IGA and Aldi and, here in WA now, by the Spudshed, who are setting up large, warehouse style food barns, a la Gubays, so there is a reasonable amount of competition here in WA.
