A reference in the book "The Dark Forest"?

Postby BTMO » Mon Feb 24, 2020 1:01 pm

Hi Bruce (and other Aardvarkians - long time, no post!)

I am listening to an audiobook at the moment "The Dark Forest". It's part two of the "Three Body Problem" trilogy by the Chinese author Cixin Liu, and my apologies if I have the name around the wrong way - that's how it's listed on my audio player. Anyhoo....

Part of the story is humanity setting up for a war with a vastly more technologically advanced species from another star system. They are discussing how to fight against this superior force and (paraphrasing) an Australian inventor is mentioned who, in the early 2000's home-built a $5,000 GPS guided cruise missile.

My questions are:

  • Are you Australian, Bruce??
  • Did the author contact you when writing the book?

:D

Ha! Me too (I grew up near Adelaide)

That was pretty much it. They were discussing options for fighting back against a vastly superior force and mentioned a $5,000 cruise missile.

Here's a link to the interesting part.
